Getting started

This page is the two-minute tour. The rest of the responder docs go deeper on each feature.

  1. Open the app. The map centres on your current location.
  2. Tap the search bar and enter a postcode, address, place name, what3words address, or road name.
  3. Tap a result. The app draws a route, shows the ETA, and reads out the first instruction.
  4. Tap Go to start turn-by-turn.

That’s the whole golden path. Everything else on the screen is there to help you arrive faster and safer.

The four things to know before your first shift

Section titled “The four things to know before your first shift”
  • Set your routing mode. Emergency mode uses blue-light exemptions (restricted turns, bus gates, one-ways the wrong way where legal). Non-emergency mode behaves like a normal sat-nav. See Routing modes.
  • Set your vehicle profile. Width, height, and (in non-emergency mode) weight restrictions are avoided based on your profile. Wrong profile, wrong routes. See Vehicle profile.
  • Save your station and frequent destinations. Bookmarks save you typing under pressure. See Favourites, offline & dark mode.
  • Maps work offline. Tiles are pre-downloaded for your operating area. You can plan and route without signal.

Routes and ETAs take account of typical traffic for the time and day of the week, not just road geometry. The first ETA you see already factors in that the M25 is slower at 0830 than at 0230.
