Vehicle profile
The vehicle profile tells Blue Light Maps how big your vehicle is and what class it belongs to (fire appliance, ambulance, response car, etc.). The app uses it to avoid routes you physically can’t take.
What it avoids
Section titled “What it avoids”- Width restrictions: bollards, build-outs, narrow lanes.
- Height restrictions: bridges, tunnels, low gantries.
- Weight limits: avoided in non-emergency mode. In emergency mode, weight limits are treated as exemptable and not avoided.
Editing your profile
Section titled “Editing your profile”Tap and hold the vehicle icon in the top-left corner of the map. The profile editor opens.
Set:
- Vehicle class (fire appliance, ambulance, response car, motorcycle, etc.)
- Width
- Height
- Gross weight
Fire crews running a standard appliance: pick Fire appliance and the defaults usually work without further tuning.
Why it matters
Section titled “Why it matters”Width and height restrictions are not exemptable under blue lights. A 3.2m bridge stops a 3.5m appliance regardless of mode. Setting an accurate profile is the difference between arriving on scene and arriving at a bridge strike.
Per-station defaults
Section titled “Per-station defaults”Organisation users: vehicle profiles can be pre-set per device via MDM so a crew swapping into a different appliance picks up the right profile automatically. See MDM vehicle profiles.
