Managing road closures
The Closures tab is for people who look after road closures in their organisation’s area. Closures you publish reach crews and routing within about two minutes.
The tab only shows if your organisation has closure management set up and your account is allowed to manage closures. You don’t need to edit the map: closures aren’t part of the map.
Anyone with road closures turned on can see closures, from Data › Road closures. See Layers and data.
Add a closure
Section titled “Add a closure”- Choose Add a closure.
- Tap where the closure starts, then where it ends. The line follows the road between them. Drag either end to adjust it, or drag the middle onto another road.
- Fill in the New closure form:
- Closed: Both ways or One way only, and which way.
- Repeats: doesn’t repeat, every day, or some days, with the hours it’s closed (for example overnight roadworks).
- Starts: now or later. Ends: a time, or leave it empty for until further notice.
- Reason: incident, flooding, roadworks, event or other. This is required.
- What crews should know: anything else, in your own words.
- Choose Publish.
Use Add another stretch to close more than one stretch of road in one closure. Under Advanced you can set the severity, a name, and your own reference, such as an incident or permit number.
While you draw, Undo in the bar takes back your last tap or drag, and Done puts the drawing tool down.
See planned closures
Section titled “See planned closures”Planned closures shows closures that haven’t started yet, as dashed amber lines with a clock.
Find and change closures
Section titled “Find and change closures”Closure list opens every closure, nearest first. You can:
- search by road, town or reference
- filter by Whose closures (Managed by us or External closure data), by Status (live, planned, or ended in the last 30 days), and under More filters by source, severity, end time and county
Each closure’s menu has Show on the map, Edit this closure, and End now (or Cancel closure for one that hasn’t started).
Closures from other sources, such as Street Manager or National Highways, can’t be edited. You can mark one as Road is open if you know it has reopened, and Undo our change later. The original record is left as it was.
